Thornton. He has the puck and is staring down an empty lane not far from the goalie's empty right half of the net.
But instead of taking a shot, he stands there with the puck, LOOKS at the goalie, WAITS for the goalie to see him, and waits for the goalie to position himself against Thornton AND waits for the other team to position themselves against a possible goal. THEN Thornton shoots. WTH is this mockery?
I've sadly come to expect this from Marleau; always missing opportunities for a goal to try to set up a prettier goal (can you say "passing the puck too many times". I knew you could). Marleau is the king of missing shots because he waited for the other team to set up instead of just shooting the dang thing on net.
It's RON'S job to tell the team to SHOOT THE PUCK. Hockey is NOT a precise game. It is a messy game.
BE AGGRESSIVE. CHARGE THE NET WHEN YOU ARE ON THE PP. STOP with the Snooopy On Ice ping pong game when on the PP to get that perfect, pretty, artistic shot into the net. Guess what.. in those games when you used to score nicely the puck would, oh I dunno, bounce funny and go in, or ricochet off the goalie's back into the net, or go in after 1, 2, maybe even 3 or more rebound tries.
CREATE CHAOS AND STOP TRYING TO BE SO DANG PRETTY OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that the Sharks sometimes hang on to the puck too long, or make one too many passes, but I refuse to yell "SHOOOOOOOOT" during a power play or in general, for that matter.
Over 80% of the people who post here are the ones who yell SHOOT, it's obvious!

I'd be more concerned with the teenyboppers who blow the Cheechoo Whistles during the game.
Now that is embarrassing. At least "shoot the puck" is the advice the guys should be actually taking.

Maybe reverse psychology. An anonymous case of dogfood for that impoverished player before the first game of the series. He'll be so grateful, he'll forget about hockey.

How about when they only squeeze off one shot in the first against, say, Detroit?
There are situations where even the most reserved might feel compelled to burst out in a "Shoot the puck!" frenzy.

Or like the fans in Calgary and Dallas both shout out at times - "Shee-Yoot, Shee-Yoot that thar puck!..."
And so it's been said many times, many ways....for over 70 years..."Shee-yoot!" Family Feud survey says it's the #1 thing people shout out at a hockey game. Why should last night have been any different?

shoot the puck works in beginner league hockey. More often than not against elite goaltenders shooting the puck while the goaltender's attention is all on you and he is completely squared up for it with nothing in between you and him... is a waste.
This is why teams pass it around on the PP so much without launching one as they are trying to find shooting lanes /w someone to tip in front or someone screening or to get the goaltender out of position so you have a semi-open net to shoot into.

Everyone is afraid of being shown up by the goalie. No one wants to look bad or be seen looking weak.
Too many egos on the team, which is ironic considering how it's making them look.
The Sharks should have traded for Michael Ryder and Yashin at the deadline.

There is a huge difference between complaining (even shouting in that delusion they can hear you) that a specific player should have taken a specific puck, such as when Marleau should have shot and passed on a 2-on-1 last night. Those who constantly scream "SHOOT!" through two minutes of PP are simply idiots who understand about as much of the game as some who has never seen one before.
