I have a set of Wilson Pro Staffs that I have augmented with a Ping redeye one Iron. I have also a Big Bertha driver, but I bought it used on E-Bay, and hope it is not a chinese knock-off, but I am so bad, it might as well be a steak bone tied to a stick HA.
I use a simple blade (McGregor) to putt with.
Balls? Whatever is the easiest to FIND!
But there is no finer day than a day of cheating all day with my son out at Deep Cliff.

Pings. My old roommate had a brand new set that he'd never used (he got 'em) for free. He let me use them and finally just sold them to me for $100. Sucker. I also have a somewhat older driver called The Judge. Hits the ball a mile so I've always just stuck with it.

No, If we are out with others, we play PGA Rules. But for just us, it's about two things- a Great Day, and improving the game if the opportunity presents itself. So if it's under a tree, we don't care. Move it and take the best shot you got. It works for us. It's just a game, and six really fun hours! And as a combatant, He is the only player I don't ever mind losing to.
Except he won't let me drive the cart!

El Cheapo Dunlop set my wife got for me, has no putter or wedge. Got it from Big 5, open stock clearance sale. Used to have an old Arnold Palmer set my dad stole from me (read borrowed and never returned). I just don't have time to go out, tho.

To be honest... I choose the Blue only because it matched my bag and other clubs!! haha!!
I'm only hitting about 250yards... maybe 275 on a good day w/ the wind at my back so it's good for me. When I got mine, they had 3 choices for shafts... Grafalloy Blue Prolaunch, Fujikura Green, and a standard Callaway black shaft. All 3 had Regular & X-Stiff I think? It did come with a FREE hybrid... gave that to the wife.
I also don't think my swing speed is fast enough for the X-Stiff, but the Fujikura green shaft looked pretty cool! (your's is green, right?)

No. Mine is grey. I was clocked at about 125 when I bought it. However, I've been sitting around a lot and I don't think I'm swinging quite as hard.

On the "cheating" matter. It doesn't matter if you are only playing with your son. If you are keeping score, than it's just a waste of time and pencil lead. If you're just running around hitting the ball, no big deal.
What I'm trying to say is, you will never know if you are improving or not by not keeping an honest score. It builds bad habits, and possibly the urge to cheat with others.
Golf is a game of good sportsmanship, and the term, "if you're not cheating, you're not trying" doesn't apply. It's a game where you can teach your son more than just how to play the game itself. It's a chance to encourage soundness of moral character, honesty and how to face adversity without losing your cool.

Good post.
I play the ball down, count every stroke, read rule book once a year. I play in a lot of tournaments and the disipine I have maintained in casual rounds pays off in tourneys, simply put, there are a lot of vanity handicaps out there, probably equal to the number of sand baggers.[
